FIRST ANNIVERSARY: Kano Gov to declare State of Emergency on Education, Tuesday
The Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, is set to declare a State of Emergency in the education sector, aiming at quality education for all, while expediting delivery of services in the sector.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, dated Sunday June 2, 2024.
The Governor, who is set to declare the state of emergency on Tuesday June 4, has said that it is in fulfillment of one of his crucial campaign promises outlined in his document titled, “My Commitment for Kano,” which was formulated and presented to the public in 2022, ahead of the 2023 elections.
“The declaration of a state of emergency in education is intended to hasten actions in delivering services to guarantee access to quality education for all in Kano.
“Concerned about the deteriorating state of the education sector, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is prepared to declare a state of emergency in education in order to expedite a comprehensive overhaul of the sector and propose a definitive solution to the current challenges in higher, secondary, and primary education,” the statement said.
The forthcoming event, according to Bature, will convene all pertinent stakeholders in the field of education, including development partners, state and federal agencies.
Also expected to participateat the event, are “esteemed dignitaries” such as the Minister of Education, governors from other states, members of the academic community and representatives from the media.
The event is scheduled to take place at the open arena of the Government House in Kano, with a live broadcast of it on Channels Television and various local stations.
