Ogun Police arrest 5 teenage gang over 72-year-old hotelier’s murder
The Ogun State Police Command has arrested five men over the death of a popular hotelier Chief Moses Akanni Famuyiwa.
Chief Famuyiwa, the Director of Mafland Hotel, was attacked by some hoodlums at the residence of one of his wives at Arigbajo in Ifo Local Government Area of the state on the 14th of June 2017.
The state police command, in a statement by his public relations officer (PPRO), Mr. Abimbola Oyeyemi, an assistant superintendent of police (ASP), said the hoodlums numbering about eight broke into the residence about 5am during which they carried out the murder.
It said, “The hoodlums numbering about eight broke into the residence at about 5:00 am and held everybody hostage. They overpowered the 73yrs old man, stabbed him on his left hand before dispossessing him of his bag containing the cash sum of #500,000 and two GSM handsets. He was rushed to the hospital by people around but gave up the ghost on the way as a result of excess bleeding.
“On getting the report of the case, the Commissioner of Police Cp Ahmed Iliyasu ordered the DPO Ewekoro SP Vincent Egwuonu to get the hoodlums arrested within the shortest possible period of time. In compliance with the Cp’s order, the DPO and his men swung into action and their intelligence base efforts led to the arrest of the following suspects: Dare Abiodun ‘m’ 19yrs, Femi Ayinla ‘m’ 17yrs, Abduliamin Akinlotan ‘m’ 18yrs, Jamiu Akeweje ‘m’ 19yrs, and Gbenga Ojo ‘m’ 20yrs. They have all made confessional statements regarding their involvement in the murder of the deceased.
“Meanwhile the Cp has directed that the case be transfer to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discrete investigation and possible prosecution of the suspects,” Oyeyemi said in the statement.
