UGHELLI: Delta council, NDLEA, police, others hold re-orientation workshop against drugs for 150 youths

The Executive Chairman, Ughelli North Local Government Area, Hon. Godwin Adode JP, on Wednesday 7th June 2023, attended a one-day sensitisation workshop on dangers of illicit drugs and substance abuse.
The event, which was held at the Local Government Secretariat Ughelli, attracted youths from within and outside the council area.
The sensitisation workshop was organised by the Delta State Conflict Prevention Council in collaboration with Ughelli North Local Government Council, Ughelli Kingdom Traditional Ruler, Delta State Police Command, NDLEA Delta State Command and Human Rights Protection Congress, Delta State.
The workshop, conducted to re-orientate 150 youths and drug peddlers from illicit substance and drugs abuse in the council, featured the presence of delegates from at least seven communities in Ughelli North LGA.
Addressing the youths, the Council Chairman, represented by the Secretary to the Local Government (SLG), Hon. Igogono Okiemute Goddey, noted that drugs and illicit substance abuse is dangerous to human health and wellbeings, thus enjoining the youths to stay away from same so as to save their future from being destroyed.
Speaking further, Adode restated his administration’s commitment to make Ughelli North LGA free of illicit drugs and crime free and, therefore, urged all participants to take advantage of the workshop in order to make impact in their various communities.
At the end of the workshop, it was unanimously agreed that communities leaders and other stakeholders should constitute a task force to monitor early warnings and signals of the supply and demand value chain and network distribution of drug peddlers.
The event was attended by the Ovie of the Great Ughelli Kingdom; His Royal Majesty, Evang. Dr. Ojakovo Wilson JP+, Oharisi III, the President General (PG) of the Great Ughelli Kingdom; Chief Pius Omubaye, Community Presidents and their Secretaries, Representatives from each Kingdoms in Ughelli North.
Also in attendance were the Delta State Commissioner of Police duly represented by the Ughelli Area Commander; ACP Ademola Adebayo, State NDLEA Commandant ably represented by ACN Silas Omobude, and Human Rights Group
