Pope appoints new Nigerian representative

Pope Francis has appoint Monsignor Antonio Guido Filipazzi as the new ‘Apostolic Nuncio’ to Nigeria.

The ‘Apostolic Nuncio’ is the term used for the Pope’s direct representatives to countries.

A statement on Wednesday by the Secretary General, Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN) Abuja, Rev. Ralph Madu the Pope made the announcement today (April 26, 2017) and is with immediate effect.

“He (Filipazzi) was born in Melzo (Milan- Italy) on October 8, 1963. He was ordained a priest on October 10, 1987 and is a Doctor in Canon Law.

“He entered the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See in 1992 and has served in the Apostolic Nunciature in Sri Lanka, Austria, Germany, Indonesia and the Section for Relations with States of the Secretariat of State,” Madu said.

He added that the new Pope representative speaks Italian, English, French and German.
