MUSWEN congratulates Prof Opeloye over appointment as NIREC Executive Secretary

The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) has congratulated Professor Muibi Omolayo Opeloye, Chairman of its Mediation and Reconciliation Committee, on his appointment as the new Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC).
MUSWEN described the appointment as a recognition of Professor Opeloye’s outstanding contributions to interfaith dialogue, peacebuilding, mediation and the promotion of harmonious relations among Nigeria’s diverse religious communities.
In a congratulatory message on Thursday, 24th September, 2026, signed by Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, President and Professor Wole Abbas, Executive Secretary, MUSWEN said Professor Opeloye’s appointment was particularly significant given his long-standing commitment to fostering mutual understanding, peaceful coexistence and reconciliation across religious and communal divides.
MUSWEN noted that, as Chairman of its Mediation and Reconciliation Committee, Professor Opeloye had demonstrated intellectual depth, wisdom and a strong commitment to resolving disputes through dialogue and constructive engagement.
The organisation expressed confidence that he would bring his wealth of experience, scholarship and peacebuilding expertise to his new responsibility at NIREC.
“Professor Opeloye’s appointment is a source of great pride to MUSWEN and entire Muslim Ummah in Nigeria at large, the statement said.
“We are confident that his experience in mediation, reconciliation and interfaith engagement will contribute significantly to strengthening the mandate of NIREC and advancing peaceful religious coexistence in Nigeria.”
MUSWEN prayed for divine guidance, wisdom and strength for Professor Opeloye as he assumes the new national assignment, urging him to continue to uphold the principles of fairness, dialogue, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence.
