New national crime database will make Police more efficient – Moshood
The Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, says the new national crime database, which is being established by the Nigeria Police, will make police service more efficient in the country.
The Police spokesperson said this on Tuesday during an interview on Channels Television News at 10.
He added that the national crime database has reached the last stage of completion.
According to him, the database is being established at the force headquarters to link all police divisions and formations in the six geopolitical zones of the country.
“The national crime database will ensure that we have enough data. It is to ensure that when we collect data, they are immediately processed for usage to prevent crime. This new initiative is to enable the process to be faster and more efficient.
“When people are traveling outside this country to work or study, they come to the police to get criminal data so that we can verify them; this is what we call character certificate. We currently have a central record where we have that in Lagos. We have been using this to fight crime and to ensure crime prevention is effective.
“But this (national crime database) is part of the new initiative by the government to make police service more efficient and more effective,” he said.
Moshood, however, added that the Force will require more budgetary allocation to fully complete and implement the new initiative.
