Coalition protests against Zakzaky’s release
Protesters under the aegis of the Coalition on Good Governance and Change Initiative (CGGCI) Monday besieged the Federal High Court headquarters, Abuja, condemning the judgment ordering the release of leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Ibraheem El-Zakzaky from custody.
Speaking on behalf of the protesters, National President of the group, Comrade Okpokwu Ogenyi said the judgment by Justice Gabriel Kolawole was done without recourse to the consequences that it may have on law enforcement, security, anti-terror fight, terrorism, extremism and secessionist movements in Nigeria.
He said the National Judicial Council (NJC) should investigate Justice Kolawole as his judgment “has dealt a fresh blow to the future of Nigeria by legalising terrorism while leaving the rest of us at risk of losing our lives.”
“If the entire judiciary has activated its vendetta against the security agencies that they see as the executive arm, the precedence set by Justice Kolawole took things to the ridiculous by awarding N50 million of tax payers’ money to finance IMN’s radicalisation programme,” he said.
He added that the judge failed to realise the weight of his utterance that has basically ordered the government to build a new headquarters for a proscribed group.
Ogenyi was later asked to write a properly addressed letter to the Chief Registrar of the court and submit through their lawyers for consideration of the Court.
