Dalung Backs Fuel Subsidy Reintroduction, Says It Is Only Benefit for Common Nigerians

Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has expressed support for the reintroduction of fuel subsidy, arguing that its removal has failed to deliver tangible benefits to ordinary Nigerians.
Dalung said the withdrawal of the subsidy had instead worsened the economic situation of citizens, while benefiting only a small number of people in government.
“The withdrawal of fuel subsidy has not benefited Nigerians. Rather, it has benefited only a few people in government. They are the only ones we can see who have transformed,” he said.
The former minister also criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu, alleging that the government had failed to adequately address poverty and corruption in the country.
According to him, the President’s political strength has increased since 2023, despite what he described as worsening hardship among Nigerians.
Dalung further alleged that the Tinubu administration lacked the capacity to effectively tackle corruption because, in his view, “its foundation is rooted in corruption.”
He maintained that restoring the fuel subsidy would provide relief to ordinary Nigerians, describing it as the only tangible benefit available to the common man.
Dalung’s comments come amid continued national debate over the impact of fuel subsidy removal, rising living costs and the government’s economic policies.
He made the remarks while commenting on the country’s political and economic situation.
