ATIKU ABUBAKAR: NIGERIANS NEED RELIEF, NOT EXCUSES. BAYO ONANUGA SHOULD SHOW THE WORKINGS, NOT ATTACKS FROM STATE HOUSE

Dear Mr. Bayo Onanuga
I have read your latest attack on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential candidate of African Democratic Congress ADC for 2027 general elections, over his commitment to restore a targeted fuel subsidy, and frankly your lengthy response raises a more important question. If the removal of subsidy has delivered so much success, why are millions of Nigerians still struggling to survive?
You can explain the percentage composition of a barrel of crude oil all day, but Nigerians are asking a much simpler question,
What happened to the savings from subsidy removal, and how has that money translated into better lives for ordinary Nigerians?
Fuel prices have risen dramatically since 2023, while transport, food, energy and the cost of doing business have followed. Yet Nigerians are repeatedly asked to celebrate macroeconomic stability while their purchasing power continues to shrink.
Mr. Onanuga, Nigerians do not eat macroeconomic stability. They need affordable food, transportation, energy and dignity.
And let us be clear, flexibility is not confusion. When economic realities change, responsible leadership should be willing to review policies and introduce better solutions. Atiku’s proposal is centred on a targeted, capped and auditable intervention, particularly as domestic refining capacity expands, not simply a return to an unchecked subsidy regime.
The real issue is therefore not the word subsidy. The real issue is the objective, transparency and judicious utilisation of public resources.
Imagine a situation where APC led administration of President Tinubu is so proud that as a result of Fuel Subsidy Removal since 2023, 37 Governors including the presidency has been sharing more money,While 230 million poor Nigerians has been sharing more pain.
Tufia kwa!!
If the government insists that subsidy removal has benefited Nigerians, then show the workings. Tell Nigerians exactly what has been saved, where the money has gone, and what measurable improvement the ordinary citizen has received.
No be cho cho.
Mr. Onanuga, with due respect, why are you spending so much energy responding to Atiku Abubakar’s manifesto when you should be selling the manifesto and achievements of your principal?
If your policies are working, defend them. If Nigerians are benefiting, show us the evidence.
Nigerians are no longer impressed by lengthy propaganda, personal attacks or political name calling. They are looking at their wallets, their fuel gauges, their food baskets and their businesses.
And quite frankly, thank you Mr Onanuga, for keeping Atiku Abubakar and his targeted subsidy proposal in the national conversation. At this rate, you are becoming one of Atiku’s most effective campaign strategists.
For millions of Nigerian youths and ordinary citizens, the 2027 election will not be decided by State House press releases. It will be decided by a leader who can offer genuine hope, economic relief and a realistic pathway to a better life,of which His Excellency Atiku Abubakar has demonstrated so far.
Nigerians want results, not explanations for suffering.
