Police Impound 26 Vehicles in Asaba Over Number Plate Violations

The Delta State Police Command has intensified enforcement of vehicle registration regulations, leading to the impoundment of 26 vehicles operating without valid registration number plates or with obscured, altered, defaced, or unreadable number plates in Asaba and its environs.
The operation, carried out on Friday, June 19, 2026, was personally led by the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi John Oyeniyi, in compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

According to the statement, the enforcement exercise forms part of ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to enhance public safety, strengthen crime prevention measures, and improve vehicle identification for security purposes.
The police said 26 vehicles found to be in violation of existing vehicle registration laws were impounded during the operation, while the affected motorists were arraigned before a Mobile Court sitting in Asaba for the relevant offences.
Speaking during the exercise, CP Oyeniyi urged vehicle owners and motorists to comply with vehicle registration requirements and ensure the proper display of approved number plates. He emphasized that the enforcement initiative is aimed at improving security and promoting adherence to the law.
The Commissioner of Police further warned that the operation would be sustained across Delta State, directing the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to ensure strict enforcement of the directive across all Area Commands, Divisions, and tactical formations in the state.
He reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to proactive and intelligence-driven policing strategies designed to protect lives and property throughout Delta State.
