The Commissioner also noted a rise in murder cases across the state and urged DPOs to work closely with community members to discourage the escalation of disputes that could lead to violence or loss of life.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has convened a high-level strategic meeting with senior officers to address issues relating to security, discipline, and professional conduct within the command.

The meeting, held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, was conveyed through the Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe. In attendance were members of the Command Management Team, Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and Heads of Departments.

During the session, the CP emphasized the need for strict adherence to the rules and regulations of the Nigeria Police Force guiding officers’ conduct. He warned that professional misconduct would not be tolerated and stated that supervising officers would be held vicariously liable for the actions of personnel under their command.

CP Oyeniyi expressed concern over what he described as insufficient community engagement by some DPOs. He directed all DPOs to actively engage critical stakeholders within their areas of responsibility and sensitize residents on the importance of maintaining security consciousness.

The Commissioner also noted a rise in murder cases across the state and urged DPOs to work closely with community members to discourage the escalation of disputes that could lead to violence or loss of life.

As part of renewed security measures, the CP issued marching orders to Area Commanders and DPOs to identify all schools, churches, mosques, and correctional centres within their jurisdictions and ensure maximum security coverage. He further directed that regular visits be conducted to these facilities to strengthen security presence.

In addition, the CP ordered all officers to maintain a smart and neat appearance at all times and to wear their official name tags while on duty. He warned that any officer found without a name tag on their uniform or approved tactical vest would face sanctions, with their supervising officers also held accountable.

The meeting forms part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to strengthen security operations and enhance professionalism within the Delta State Police Command.
