‘DAESH-STYLE WAR CRIME’: Destroying bridges does not make aggressors great, Tehran says

The Iranian spokesman emphasized that the US and Israel have “relentlessly” pursued the goal for “nearly five decades through political pressure, smear campaigns, economic sanctions, and the assassination of Iran’s brightest scientists and experts.”

The spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry has lashed out at the United States and the Israeli regime for committing “Daesh-style terrorist war crime” during their ongoing unprovoked war against the Islamic Republic, saying the two enemies will fail to become great by destroying great bridges in Iran.

“Destroying great bridges, which stand tall as a proud testament to the ingenuity, dedication, and tireless effort of Iranian engineers and workers, does not make the destroyers great,” Esmaeil Baghaei said on his X account on Friday.

It is an “undeniable truth” that such a Daesh-like terrorist war crime, along with similar attacks on Iran’s critical infrastructure, pursues their ultimate goal, which is the destruction of Iran, he added.

The Iranian spokesman emphasized that the US and Israel have “relentlessly” pursued the goal for “nearly five decades through political pressure, smear campaigns, economic sanctions, and the assassination of Iran’s brightest scientists and experts.”

8 civilians reportedly killed, 95 injured following the US-Israeli strikes that targeted the B1 bridge in Karaj. The victims include Iranian travelers, residents of the local village, as well as families who were in the area for Nature Day.

“Yet Iran stands taller, prouder, and greater than ever,” Baghaei pointed out.

The remarks come amid the ongoing illegal US-Israeli aggression against the Islamic Republic, where civilian infrastructure has repeatedly been targeted in flagrant violation of international law.

On Thursday, the US and Israel carried out two strikes on the B1 Bridge in Karaj—one of the country’s tallest bridges and considered a major engineering achievement.

The B1 Bridge — which connects Tehran to the city of Karaj – was destroyed in a second strike, just hours after an initial attack resulted in the deaths of eight civilians and the injury of 95 others.

The second strike occurred while emergency responders were still assisting victims of the first attack, escalating the humanitarian impact.

The governor’s office said the bridge, which was nearing completion and is a key part of the province’s transport infrastructure, sustained damage in the attack.

The Mayor of Tehran, Alireza Zakani, calls upon Metropolis to condemn the US attack on the B1 Bridge in Karaj and civilian urban infrastructure.

In a message posted on X on Thursday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the US-Israeli attacks on civilian structures, including unfinished bridges, will never break the Islamic Republic’s resolve, describing the assaults as clear signs of the aggressor’s defeat and moral bankruptcy.

Araghchi wrote: “Striking civilian structures, including unfinished bridges, will not compel Iranians to surrender. It only conveys the defeat and moral collapse of an enemy in disarray. Every bridge and building will be built back stronger. What will never recover: damage to America’s standing.”

Iranian officials have consistently highlighted these desperate acts as evidence of the enemy’s strategic failure and frustration on multiple fronts. They said that any damaged infrastructure will be reconstructed with greater strength and determination, while the United States suffers irreparable harm to its already diminished global standing.
