Air Chief orders intensified intelligence-driven operations to tackle evolving security threats

By SUMAYYAH ADEFAKA

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has directed Air Component Commanders of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to intensify intelligence-led operations across all theatres of operation, citing Nigeria’s fluid and evolving security environment.

He stressed that the changing dynamics of the nation’s security landscape require speed, precision, and continuous operational adjustments, with intelligence remaining central to all air operations.

The directive was issued on Tuesday during a high-level strategic meeting with Air Component Commanders. The Air Chief described the engagement as a crucial platform to review ongoing missions, address operational gaps, and recalibrate strategies in response to emerging threats.

In a statement released by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the CAS emphasised the need for sustained operational pressure on insurgents and other hostile elements.

“Counter-insurgency operations demand speed, precision and relentless pressure on hostile elements. We must dominate the operational space through superior coordination, innovation and unwavering professionalism. Every sortie, every mission and every decision must move us closer to total security restoration. The Nigerian Air Force will continue to project overwhelming airpower in support of ground forces and joint operations,” he said.

He added that commanders must deepen inter-agency collaboration and fully leverage modern technology to stay ahead of evolving security threats.

While commending Air Component Commanders and personnel for their resilience and professionalism, the Air Chief noted that sustained air operations have recorded measurable successes, including the disruption of terrorist networks and support for ground offensives.

He attributed the gains to disciplined execution of operations and adherence to his command philosophy of maintaining a motivated and mission-ready force.

Air Marshal Abubakar assured Nigerians that the NAF remains committed to protecting civilians, safeguarding national assets, and defending the country’s territorial integrity.

Nigeria continues to face multifaceted security challenges, including insurgency, terrorism, banditry, and other violent crimes across several regions.

The Nigerian Air Force has maintained robust air operations in support of ground troops and joint task forces, increasingly relying on real-time intelligence, enhanced coordination, and advanced technology to counter threats nationwide.
