Tinubu suspends vacation in France, after Falana said Senate under Akpabio notoriously collapsing Nigeria

This global online newspaper could not however ascertain whether or not the action of the president was based on Falana’s statement reporting Senate President God’swill Akpabio or he decided to do that on his own to prevent Nepal situation in Nigeria.

The DEFENDER online Newspaper reports that 72 hours after human rights lawyer and senior advocate of of Nigeria, Chief Femi Falade, called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to cut short his long vacation abroad and return home to prevent the country from collapsing into a state of anarchy due to attitude of Senate under God’swill Akpabio, the president is back in Abuja.

Falana accused Akpabio and the Nigerian government of disobeying court judgments and downplaying the rule of law.

President Bola Tinubu was said to have decided to cut short his two-week working vacation and was expected to return on Tuesday September 16, 2025.

This was disclosed via a statement issued by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, titled: “President Tinubu ends vacation ahead of schedule, returns to Abuja tomorrow”.

The statement read, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has concluded his work vacation ahead of schedule and will return to Abuja on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, to resume official duties.

“The President departed for France on September 4, 2025, to spend part of his annual holiday and was initially scheduled to divide the period between France and the United Kingdom.

“Last week in Paris, President Tinubu held a private luncheon with his French counterpart, President Emmanuel Macron, at the Élysée Palace. Both leaders reviewed key areas of cooperation between Nigeria and France and agreed to deepen the partnership for mutual prosperity and global stability.”

Recall that on September 4, the presidency, in a statement announcing the President’s vacation, said that, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja today, September 4, to commence a working vacation in Europe, as part of his 2025 annual leave. The vacation will last 10 working days.

“President Tinubu will spend the period between France and the UK and then return to the country.”

In a statement he signed, Falana said the situation where Court judgments are disregarded by some influential people threatens adherence to the rule of law in Nigeria.

“President Bola Tinubu should prevent the state from collapsing by suspending his vacation and halt the inexorable descent to anarchy and chaos in the country,” he said.

He charged the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, to draw up measures to prevent such continuous court disobedience.

The human rights lawyer also described the Senate under the leadership of Senate President Godswill Akpabio as the most notorious.

Falana said the Senate under Akpabio has disregarded court verdicts.

He lamented that under Akpabio’s leadership, the Senate has treated Court verdicts with disdain.

Falana said, “Judgments of courts are disobeyed by governments and powerful individuals.

“The most notorious institution is the Senate under the leadership of Senator God’swill Akpabio.”
