2 arrested over killing of Sokoto school student
Information reaching The DEFENDER Thursday night says at least two persons have been arrested by Sokoto State Police Command over the incident killing through which a female student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education lost her life earlier in the day.
The arrest happened few hours after the state government had shut down the school and the Sultanate Council Sokoto issued a statement condemning the incident and calling on security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice.
According to the police, Deborah Samuel, a level-two student, was accused of making a social media post that blasphemed the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
The police said the students forcefully removed the victim from the security room where she was hidden by the school authorities, killed her and burnt the building.
The police, reportedly, vowed that the suspects in the viral video on Twitter were spotted and will be nailed soon, according to a statement signed by police spokesperson in Sokoto, Sanusi Abubakar.
Mr. Abubakar said the school has been shut down and additional police personnel deployed to the area.
