It’s only competent medical experts that can ascertain whether President Muhammadu Buhari is fit to run for a second term in 2019 or not, his Special Assistant on National Assembly Matters, Alhaji Abdulrahman Sulaiman Kawu Sumaila, has said.
Sumaila said the issue of Buhari’s health status was not a new thing, as many things had been said since the very first time he contested for the presidency in 2003.
Speaking to newsmen in Kano on Monday, Sumaila said it was normal for the elderly like Buhari to fall sick, saying even the pressure of work could make him ill.
“I am confident that President Buhari will recover and continue to steer the affairs of this country to complete his first tenure and re-contest for the second term in 2019,” he said.
He said the president would be ready to confront any interested candidate that would challenge him in 2019.
Sumaila noted that whether the former governor of Kano State, Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, would contest for the seat or not, Buhari would be waiting for whoever was eyeing the seat.
“Kwankwaso has contested alongside Buhari ahead of the 2015 presidential election and he had seen the consequences of his action. So, let him try it again,” he said.
