A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Edo State, Charles Idahosa, on Friday, said some of the killings by “herdsmen” and armed bandits in the country are handiwork of desperate politicians in a bid to discredit President Muhammadu Buhari before the international community ahead of the 2019 elections.
The former Special Adviser to the immediate past Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, said the recent invitation of Buhari to deliver a speech at the International Court of Justice at The Hague is in recognition of this government’s efforts to end the killings and tackle insecurity and corruption.
He said under past presidents, more Nigerians were killed and nobody ever attributed such killings to them. He however insisted that no sane man will order the killing of his people.
“When there were killings in the Niger Delta during the administration of PDP led government of Jonathan Goodluck, we witnessed even more killings than Obasanjo’s era. I am not justifying killing in any form. I want you to remind me that if it was ever said that it was Jonathan that was ordering the killings in the north or South. Nobody accused them.
“Look at the battle in Zaki-Biam and Odi, how a whole village was levelled. Why will any sane man ordered the killing of his own people, what will he achieve? The first thing a policeman will find out at a crime is motive. All these things are perpetuated by politicians in the opposition party to give the outside world the impression that there is anarchy.
“And that the APC led federal government has lost control. It is only in this country that a serving minister is killed in his bedroom without anybody knowing who the killers are. They are doing this to create the impression that Buhari is responsible.
“I am one of the proudest Nigerians because I went to England in the 70’s and know how Nigerians were looked at. For my president in my life time to address the International Criminal Court of justice at The Hague, the only head of state in whole world ever, they are calling him to come and address them because of his efforts in fighting corruption and surviving it in Nigeria. Yet people are shouting everywhere that he is not performing which is wrong.”
