The 18 students abducted by bandits from College of Agriculture and Animal Science, Bakura, have been released.

Receiving the students in Government House Gusau, on Friday, Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle, said his administration would continue to work with the security agencies to secure the state from bandits.

Governor Matawalle said the students were released without payment of ramsom but that the repentant bandits were used to negotiate their release.

He further said that the government would do everything possible to tackle the issue of banditry in the state and appealed to security agencies to take up the challenges of tackling the menace.

He thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for sending additional troops to fight the bandits and other criminal elements in the state.

Presenting the students to the governor, the state  Commissioner of Police, Ayuba Elkana, said they were able to secure the release of the students based on intelligence gathering, negotiation with the bandits and the peace efforts of the state government.

He said the security agencies in the state would continue to collaborate with the state government to ensure collective effort in the fight against recalcitrant bandits.
