151 athletes battle for glory at 2017 CCSF taekwondo Prix Series
151 athletes comprising of 101 males and 51 females are presently sluggung it out at the 2017 Chika Chukwumerije Sports Foundation (CCSF) Taekwondo Prix Series.
The two-day event which is taking place at the Old Parade Ground Sporting centre in Abuja has participants drawn from 29 teams across 12 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The President of CCSF Chika Chukwumerije said the grassroot competition is aimed at unravling talents who could be groomed to represent the country in future international championships.
Chukwumerije who disclosed that the competition was the foundation’s second this year, added that it will stage two more before the end of the year- on September 8th and 9th and December 15th and 16th.
He said athletes were competing in two broad branch of taekwondo; Poomsae and Kyreougi and 24 categories.
“With this competition, we have realised that we need to bring more players in, in the cadets and junior categories because only few of them registered.
He said: “Gold medalists will get N7000, Silver medalist N5000 and Bronze medalist will go home with N3000”, adding that they will also get medals while all participants will receive a certificate of participation each.
The competition is expected to climax on Saturday evening.
