Over one thousand card carrying women members of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Friday, defected to the All progressives Congress APC in Zamfara state.
The decampees were led to the Government House, Gusau to perfect their defection by the former women leader of the state Peoples Democratic party PDP Hajiya Madina Shehu.
Hajiya Madina Shehu who just defected to the APC, in less than 24 hours, was immediately followed by over 1000 card carrying other women members of the PDP into the APC.
According to a circular issued by the Press Secretary to the Governor of Zamfara State, Jamilu Iliyasu Birnin Magaji,
“Among those who defected to the APC were the State PDP youths leader of the women wing, women local Government campaign coordinators of the PDP gubernatorial candidate, Dr Dauda Lawal Dare, some state working committee and state executive council members of the party.
Similarly, Bungudu local Government campaign Coordinator of Dr Dauda Lawal Dare, Alhaji Ibrahim Leda and State House of Assembly Aspirant for Gusau ll constituency, Honourable Ibrahim Mada have announced their defection to the APC from PDP alongside hundreds of their supporters.
In their seperate remarks, the Bungudu local Government campaign Coordinator of Dr Dauda Lawal Dare and State House of Assembly Aspirant for Gusau ll constituency, Honourable Ibrahim Mada, as well as other women group leaders who spoke on behalf of hundreds of the decampees said their decision to defect to the APC alongside their supporters was as a result of lack of focus coupled with poor political strategy in their former party’s leadership and its gubernatorial candidate, Dr Dauda Lawal.
They said with their formal defection now, more PDP local Government campaign Coordinators and State Executive Council Members are going to defect from the PDP and join forces with the ruling All progressives Congress APC in Zamfara State.
They also informed Governor Bello Matawalle that earlier, they have been running affairs of the PDP with their personal earnings in their respective wards and local Government Areas and that time has come for them to join APC as the winning party.
According to them, the leadership of the PDP in Zamfara State has abandoned its supporters to the extent that they are left with no option than to join the APC together with Governor Bello Matawalle to emerge victorious in the coming elections.
Receiving the decampees, Governor Bello Matawalle applauded the decision of the defectors for joining the APC as the winning party and assured them of his administration’s commitment to carry them along.
Governor Matawalle who is also the Northwest Zonal Coordinator of the Asiwaju Bola/ Shettima ticket come 2023, pledged that, he will continue to consolidate on the gains of what he has done for the people of Zamfara state promising to do more to reciprocate the gesture and the confidence vested on him by the people of the state.
