The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Zamfara State has appealed to relevant stakeholders to intensify public sensitisation on the need for eligible citizens to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mahmoud Isa, made the appeal during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the commission’s office in Gusau to mark the second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
Isa stressed that the PVC remains the only instrument that qualifies citizens to vote in any election, adding that the success of the CVR exercise and future elections depends on the collective efforts of all stakeholders.
He announced that INEC has approved the nationwide resumption of the CVR, with online pre-registration continuing, while in-person registration is scheduled to commence on January 5, 2026, at INEC Local Government Area (LGA) offices across the country.
According to the REC, it is a civic responsibility of all eligible Nigerians to register with INEC in order to participate in electoral activities, including voting on election day and contesting for elective offices at all levels of governance.
Isa explained that the CVR exercise is open to Nigerians aged 18 and above who have not previously registered, as well as those seeking replacement of lost or damaged PVCs, transfer of voter registration to a new location, or updates and corrections to voter information such as names or addresses.
He noted that the process begins online, after which applicants are required to visit INEC LGA offices in the state’s 14 local government areas, as well as the INEC state office in Gusau, bringing the total number of registration centres in the state to 15.
The REC assured stakeholders of INEC’s commitment to integrity, transparency and a level playing field to ensure a smooth and credible exercise.
He also commended the support of security agencies, traditional rulers, political parties, religious leaders, the media, voters and other organisations involved in supporting the electoral process.
Several stakeholders made contributions during the meeting.
