Zamfara govt to recruit 2,000 science teachers

By IBRAHIM KANOMA, Gusau

The Zamfara State government has concluded “all necessary arrangements” to recruit 2,000 science teachers for schools across the state.

This was disclosed by the Executive Chairman of Zamfara State Teaching Service Board, Muhammad Aliyu Anka, while responding to sacking of over 100 contract teachers of the board.

He said the contract teachers were relieved of their position because most of them, “their contact has expired since 2021 without making any effort to renew but are still collecting salaries.”

He further said most of them do not go to school due to banditry in their areas of jurisdiction and that, as such, the government decided to relieve them of their position to give room for new recruitment of young teachers who are fresh graduates.

He further explained that the new recruitment exercise would be done among the indigenes within the area where the school is located, to avoid abscondement or absenteeism that lack of accomodation or transport money could be excuse for.

According to the chairman, the recruitment is to bridge the gap that might have been created by sacking of the contract teachers, adding that “all necessary incentives would be provided for the new teachers to enable them dedicate to their jobs to accomplish the rescue mission of present administration of Governor Dauda Lawal.”

Muhammad Aliyu further said when the need arises to re-engage some of those sacked, they would be recalled.
