The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria (MMWGN) has commended the newly sworn-in Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Adebayo Oyebanji, for appointing a Muslim in the person of Dr. Habibat Omolara Adubiaro as the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

In a press statement issued Wednesday in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State and signed by its National Coordinator, Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim, the group stated that the singular action of Governor Oyebanji has further convinced the Nigerian Muslims that, good leaders abound in the country, who are truly concerned about uniting the people for the overall development of the nation state.

Apart from gender sensitivity of Dr. Habibat’s appointment, who is a seasoned academic, it will further raise the bar of governance in Ekiti State  by enhancing quality of governance, the Group said.

The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria admonished other governments of states such as in Ondo, Benue, Edo, Plateau and all the states in the South-South and South-East to recognise the salient point that in all the states, qualified indigenous Muslims abound who are capable of delivering on the mandate to the people.

Hence, the group noted that, marginalising them is a violation of their oath of office as taken on their first day in office.

Alhaji Ibrahim appealed to all Nigerians, especially leaders, “to play down religious politics by avoiding discrimination, partisanship and religious bigotry that impede national progress and development.

The Group finally wished the new Secretary to the Ekiti State Government, Dr. Habibat Omolara Adubiaro, and the entire members of Ekiti State Government a very successful tenure of office.
