Xenophobia: No Nigerian killed in S/Africa – FG

No Nigerian was killed in the xenophobic attacks in South Africa, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Khadija Bukar Abba Ibrahim,has said.

Speaking when she appeared before the joint committee of the Senate and House of Representatives on Foreign Affairs, the minister said “We spoke with our High Commissioner today (yesterday) and it has been confirmed that no Nigerian was killed. All the information we have are from the High Commissioner who had visited the victims of the attacks.”

She said a high powered delegation of the Federal Government would soon be dispatched to South Africa to assess the situation and find a means to put an end to the xenophobic attacks.

Speaking at the meeting, Senate Committee Chairman, Senator Monsurat Sunmonu said “We are not happy and we are highly disappointed.  If it is necessary Nigeria will not hesitate to put sanctions on South Africa in this country.

“It’s going to be  tit for tat and we would not hesitate to put our feet down to be able to tell them and say enough is enough,” she said. Meanwhile, both chambers of the National Assembly have resolved to send delegation to the South African Parliament to express the country’s displeasure on attacks on its nationals.
