Widow of 9th Emir of Ilorin, Queen Halimat Sulu-Gambari, Dies

Queen Halimat is survived by her children, including Prince Modibbo Sulu-Gambari, and other members of the Sulu-Gambari royal family.

Her Highness, Queen Halimat Goni Soba Sulu-Gambari, also known as Alhaja Alimat Sobaloju Sulu-Gambari, widow of the 9th Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr.) Zulqarnain Gambari Mohammed, has died.

Queen Halimat reportedly passed away in the early hours of Thursday, August 13, 2026.

She was the wife of the late 9th Emir of Ilorin, HRH Alhaji Zulqarnain Gambari Mohammed, also known as Shehu Sulqornain bn Muhammad Laufe Dan Bawa.

Her death has elicited tributes from members of the Ilorin Emirate and political leaders in Kwara State, who described her as a woman noted for humility, charitable activities and devotion to Islam.

The current Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, joined other prominent Nigerians in mourning the deceased. Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and former Senate President Bukola Saraki also expressed condolences to the royal family.

Queen Halimat is survived by her children, including Prince Modibbo Sulu-Gambari, and other members of the Sulu-Gambari royal family.

Her death marks another loss for the Ilorin Emirate, with tributes continuing to pour in from family members, traditional leaders and well-wishers.
