We will resist any attempt to impeach Fubara, Ijaw Youth Congress vows

It claimed that the crisis was fueled by Fubara’s refusal to cede control of the state’s resources to Wike.
The Ijaw Youth Congress (IYC), Eastern Zone, has raised the alarm over an alleged plan by the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Martin Amaewhule, to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
After a stakeholders’ meeting on Wednesday, IYC Eastern Zone Chairman, Ibiso Harry, accused former governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, of orchestrating the political turmoil in the state.

Harry alleged that Wike, through his allies, Amaewhule and Tony Okocha, was behind efforts to remove Governor Fubara.
He claimed that the crisis was fueled by Fubara’s refusal to cede control of the state’s resources to Wike. He also condemned a Supreme Court ruling that froze Rivers’ allocation, arguing that the decision—allegedly influenced by Okocha—would have a severe impact on the state’s economy and the welfare of civil servants.
“We have patiently watched the political crisis perpetrated by Barr. Nyesom Wike, former governor of Rivers State, and Rt Hon. Martin Amaewhule, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly since Gov. Sim Fubara assumed office 2 years ago as the Executive Governor of Rivers State. But the bone of contention in the Rivers Crisis is the desperation of Wike to perpetually control the resources of the state both from the Federal and State Internally Generated Revenue which the Governor has objected to, resisted, and made it clear that Rivers money is for Rivers people,” he said.
The IYC chairman warned against any attempt to impeach the governor, insisting that Fubara must be allowed to complete two terms like his predecessors. He called on political actors to engage in dialogue instead of resorting to what he described as underhanded tactics.
Harry also issued a stern warning that the IYC would not stand by and allow the governor’s removal, cautioning those involved to prepare for the consequences if they proceed with the alleged plot.
“We shall resist any attempt to impeach Governor Fubara until he has served out his two tenures of eight years as his predecessors did by every means necessary. If the planners of the Governor’s Impeachment do not desist from their evil plots we should be ready to bear the consequences,” he added.
He praised President Bola Tinubu for intervening in the state’s political crisis and urged further action to ensure stability.
The IYC reaffirmed its support for Governor Fubara and called on all ethnic groups in Rivers State to resist any attempts to destabilize his administration.
The Chairman Emeritus of IYC, Ibim Ibiwari, stated that their investigations revealed a plan to impeach Governor Fubara. He pointed to statements made by Okocha and Lolo Opuene, a lawmaker from Kula, as clear evidence of this plot.
Ibiwari also emphasized that they risked their lives to secure Wike’s re-election in the past and are prepared to make the same sacrifice to ensure Fubara stays in office.
