Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has declared that he will not back down despite calls for his resignation or impeachment.

His statement comes in response to calls from a faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike call for his resignation or impeachment.

However, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Rivers State Government have strongly opposed this demand, warning against any actions that could destabilize the state.

Fubara addressed his supporters on Monday, assuring them that despite the current challenges, he remains determined to lead the state effectively.

He acknowledged that some of his supporters may feel discouraged by recent events but encouraged them to remain steadfast.

The governor stated that his leadership approach is rooted in peace and stability, warning that any acts of lawlessness would only bring negative consequences for the people of Rivers State.

The political rift in Rivers State has been ongoing for several months, with tensions between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who now serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The division has led to crisis within the state assembly and a power struggle between different political factions.

Despite the impeachment threats, Fubara remains determined, stating that he will not allow political distractions to interfere with his administration’s commitment to development and the well-being of Rivers residents.

“I want to say to our teeming supporters, I know some of you, your spirits are high, some others, your spirits are low.”

“I want to assure you, it doesn’t matter what the situation might be today, we will come up again stronger and better.”

“Please continue to follow my footstep, and that footstep remains the path of peace. We need it because if anything happens, we are the greatest losers,” Fubara declared.
