We do not want war, but this time we are prepared to avoid surprise attacks – Iran

“Right now we are seeking an answer to this question: Are we going to see a repetition of an act of aggression while we are engaging in dialogue?” Takht-e-Ravanchi stated, underscoring Iran’s profound concern following the U.S. involvement in the recent conflict.

Iran has signaled its readiness for renewed nuclear talks with the United States, but with a crucial precondition: Washington must unequivocally rule out any further aggressive actions against the Islamic Republic, according to Iran News Agency (IRNA).

This demand comes after recent U.S. aerial strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, which directly followed an unprovoked war of aggression launched by Israel.

In an interview with the BBC, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, Majid Takht-e-Ravanchi, confirmed that the administration of US. President Donald Trump has expressed, through mediators, a desire to return to negotiations.

However, Takht-e-Ravanchi stressed that Washington has “not made its position clear” regarding the critical issue of future aggression.

No specific date or framework has been agreed upon for a resumption of talks.

“Right now we are seeking an answer to this question: Are we going to see a repetition of an act of aggression while we are engaging in dialogue?” Takht-e-Ravanchi stated, underscoring Iran’s profound concern following the U.S. involvement in the recent conflict.

The U.S. carried out strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites just last weekend, directly engaging in a war that Israel initiated in the early hours of June 13.

This aggression notably began merely three days before the scheduled sixth round of indirect nuclear talks between Washington and Tehran in Muscat, Oman.

Emphasizing Iran’s stance, Takht-e-Ravanchi declared, “We do not want war. We want to engage in dialogue and diplomacy, but we have to be prepared, we have to be cautious, not to be surprised again.”

He also firmly rejected accusations that Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons, reiterating that Iran’s uranium enrichment program is strictly for peaceful purposes.

He explained that Iran must rely on its own expertise as it was “denied access to nuclear material for research program.”

Regarding the level of uranium enrichment, Takht-e-Ravanchi stated that “the level of enrichment can be discussed, the capacity can be discussed,” but dismissed the notion that Iran must “completely abandon enrichment or else you will be bombed” as no longer logical, calling it “the law of the jungle.”
