A trending video on the social media in which someone, suspected to be staff of Department of State Service (DSS), is attacked has become subject of investigation.

According to the video, the DSS personnel “was allegedly manhandled by some political miscreants in Adamawa State, following developments arising from the supplementary governorship election in the State.”

The DEFENDER’s investigation showed that crisis had erupted in Yola, following an Electoral Law breach in which Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Adamawa State, Professor Hudu Ari, against Returning Officer, declared All Progressives Congress (APC)’s Aisha Dahiru a.k.a. Binani Governor-elect when results collation was midway and she was not leading.

Sensing danger emanating from the breach, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s headquarters in Abuja, through its National Commissioner for Voter Education Mr. Festus Okoye, disavowed the declaration as it voided the APC governorship candidate’s unsubstantiated victory.

The protests that greeted the action, our investigation revealed, led to the untoward behaviour with an INEC national commissioner mistaken for the REC, attacked with blood stains all over his body.

But the DSS, reacting to the video believed to emanate from similar development, said it has instituted an investigation to unravel issues surrounding the attack on its personnel during the incident, as shown in the video.

“The Service wishes to inform the public that it has commenced a full investigation into the circumstances that led to the incident.

“While calling for calm, the Service also implores concerned parties in Adamawa State to remain peace loving and shun violence,” the statement said.
