One civilian was killed and five were injured when Ukrainian troops shelled the Transfiguration Cathedral in Donetsk in the early hours of Sunday, district administration told TASS.

“We have information about one person killed and two injured,” the source said, adding that “a few dozen of people were inside the cathedral and outside it at the time of the attack.”

According to the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) mission to the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of issues related to Ukraine’s war crimes, the armed forces of Ukraine fired a total of 20 rockets from multiple-launch rocket systems towards the Donetsk at 03:25 a.m. Moscow time on Sunday.

The administration official told TASS that a kindergarten nearby caught fire as a result of the shelling, while another one was damaged. Several projectiles fell near the cathedral, with unspecified “infrastructure facilities leading to the Roofed Market” being damaged.

Meanwhile, a law enforcement source told TASS that “an enemy drone was seen hovering above the city center prior to the attack.”

“On the Easter night, the armed forces of Ukraine conducted active aerial survey in several districts of the city. Missile defenses engaged targets throughout the entire night,” he said.

After the shelling of the church, Kiev troops continued to shell Donetsk. Three NATO-standard 155mm artillery shells fell in the city’s Kievsky district at 04:35 a.m. Moscow time, the DPR mission to the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of issues related to Ukraine’s war crimes said.
