Twist in Kwara politics, as Kwara North Emirs expose Ilorin Emirate over governorship deal with Saraki
If information reaching us is correct, things may be having a twist in Kwara North as the Emirs are facing intense pressure from youths and elders of their community over the power shift agreement signed with the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki.
The Emirs, who took turn to address their communities on what truly transpired before the peace pact was signed, which is now heating up the polity in their community, are claiming the publicized action only brought disrepute to their traditional stool from their community.
According to the Kwara North Emirs, the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari called all the Emirs in Kwara North for a meeting with Senator Bukola Saraki to sign an accord to support the PDP governorship candidate, Razaq Atunwa claiming that power will be given back to Kwara North come 2023.
The development which was as a result of threats by Bukola Saraki to depose the Emir of Ilorin, if he eventually loses the election as he will not go down alone because the current political atmosphere in Kwara state is glaringly not in his favour which had left him Saraki running helter-skelter to device every possible way to retain the leadership of the state.
The Emirs revealed they were compelled by the Emir of Ilorin to append their signatures to the accord made with Saraki. The Emirs who later agreed among themselves that the accord signed is only to deliver the polling booths in front of their individual palace as the political awareness in their community should not be underestimated.
The Emirs apologized to the elders and youths of Kwara North to maintain outmost understanding as their hands were tight but promise never to campaign or coarse them into the power shift accord signed.
The situation of things as at now is “We received an unexpected call from the Chairman of the Kwara state monarchs who happens to be the Emir of Ilorin, HRH Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari. He talked us into signing an accord with the Senate President narrating the threat the Bukola Saraki put towards him. And we agreed to deliver the polling booths in front of our respective palaces”.
Audu Pategi the leader of the youths from Kwara North present appreciated the Emirs for always maintaining their role as father of all irrespective of political affiliation of the indigenes but urged the Emirs not to subscribe to the 5th term agenda of Saraki which he plans to get using another proxy because what he is offering Kwara North is actually his 6th term agenda.
The Emirs present apologized on behalf of the Emir of Ilesha Baruba who was unavoidably absent due to the short notice of the meeting.
