The sad story in Kano as Emir Sanusi II exited
By Bashir Adefaka
It was a moment of sadness and sorrow watching the exit of Mai Martaba Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, the Emir of Kano, as he embarked on yet another moment of tribulation in his path, on Monday March 9, 2020.
The sad thing, one of our sources said, is that one of the elements that stood with the Sariki son of Sariki during his controversial removal from office as Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in yet to be acceptable circumstances by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led government of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in 2014 is today responsible for his exit from royalty as one of most important Kings in Nigeria.
It will be recalled how the 2014 served as a stepping stone to his ascension to the royalty of Kano and his later formal admission into the Northern Nigerian Traditional Rulers Council.
He said, “What I feel is that the likes of Emir Sanusi II are not fit to exist in era of some of the elites that we have in the country today, because not many of them like to hear the truths that are coming out from the mouth of the fiery monarch, Islamic scholar and renowned banker that will forever be remembered for opening the eyes of Nigeria as a system and as peoples to how corrupt elements in the economic sector and authority mounted drain pipes that milked the country dry economically.
“However, while I agree that it is very difficult and dangerous either to fight or have problem with government, I make bold to say that Sanusi’s offence can best be understood by and known only to his victimizers but all of these things are not unclear to Allah. May Allah see the former Emir of Kano through,” he said under a strict condition of anonymity in a chat with The DEFENDER Monday night.
The consolation, sources privy to centre of the issues however told us, is in the fact that what happened on Monday to the Sarikin Kano, now ex, is merely a promotional tribulation that will only land him in yet a new ascension to the next level of greatness and success in his life.
In the meantime, emerging reports say the deposed Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II finally accepted to leave the palace and his throne after hours of deadlock with security officials.
A top security officer, who was part of the team that escorted him out of the all-important Emirates, reportedly said that he departed the state through the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport at exactly 6.40 pm.
According to the report, the source said that the deposed Emir left in an aircraft number N888E which was chartered by the Kano State government to convey the deposed monarch to his new abode.
Another chartered flight conveyed his entire household made up of his wives and children out of the state, he said.
Speaking further he said they were accompanied by about eight policemen who will most likely stay with them for a while in Nassarawa State.
It was gathered that the flights took them to Abuja airport from where they will travel by road to Nassarawa State.
Born on July 31 1961 to Ibrahim Dabo family, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II was the 14th Emir of Kano from the Fulani Sullubawa clan. He was educated in King’s College, Lagos (1977), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1981) and International University of Africa.
The 59-year-old former Managing Director of First Bank of Nigeria and immediate past Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria ascended the throne in 2014, following the death of his granduncle, Alhaji Ibrahim Ado Bayero. On March 9, 2020, he was deposed by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. Prior to his ascension, Alhaji Sanusi was an economist and banker.
Popularly called Sanusi Lamido Sanusi in his banking days, he is married to Rakiya Sanusi, Maryam Sanusi and Sadiya Ado Bayero and all blessed with sound children.
