Governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, was in Abeokuta the Ogun State capital on Saturday for the reason of paying what he believes was much deserved visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

He said the visit, which culminated in an over an hour private session at the former leader’s white house residence in Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Complex at Oke Mosan in the state’s seat of power, took place in recognition of Obasanjo as an elder statesman.

A statement credited to Muhammad Bello, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Sokoto State Governor, obtained by The DEFENDER also confirmed the Mutawalle’s visit to the retired General.

Bello relayed Tambuwal’s comment to include that he came to hold the private session with him to accord him the respect he deserves.

According to the Sokoto State strongman, “it is always good for us to come and see how he is doing, pay our normal homage to him as a respected leader in this country and consult him on very many issues of governance.

“We brought him the greetings and felicitations of the good people of Sokoto State. We continue to learn from and drink from his great wealth of experience; and his fountain of knowledge in his years of governance and challenges of today, Tambuwal, who was accompanied during the visit by five of Special Advisers, noted.

He prayed for the good health of the ex-President and Nigerians in general. “May he and all of us survive this period of COVID-19 pandemic,” the governor said.

On the problem of banditry in Sokoto State, Governor Tambuwal said: “So far, we have established peace in the Eastern part of the state where we have problem of banditry. Peace is returning and people are back to their farms and homes.

“Of course, we are doing our best as a government to ensure that we engender security and provide developmental opportunities and all that,” he emphasized.
