Meanwhile, The DEFENDER reports that Udom is allegedly involved in coordinated online political messaging in support of the APC, including posts critical of Northern leadership and Muslim authorities. These allegations could not be independently verified but there are screenshots of his Facebook activities which support the allegations.

A political controversy erupted on Monday, February 9, 2026, following a Facebook post by George Udom, a known supporter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), questioning the spiritual leadership structure of Muslims in Nigeria.

From Left: Facebook faces of George Udom and Bello Isiaka: They were both sued by Sheikh Ahmad Gummi to provide evidence for their calling him a terrorist.

Udom had asked on his Facebook page: “Is Fulani the leader of all Yoruba Muslims of Nigeria?” The post quickly drew widespread reactions from Muslims and Christians alike, many of whom defended the authority of the Sultan of Sokoto as the recognised spiritual leader of Nigerian Muslims regardless of ethnicity or region.

Among the early responses was Charles Ofomata, a Christian, who replied simply: “Yes! Sultan of Sokoto.” Several Muslim commentators also rejected Udom’s framing of the issue, stressing that Islam transcends tribal and ethnic divisions.

S. Jubril Sky challenged Udom’s motive, asking why he had not first attempted to persuade Yoruba Muslims to convert to Christianity before raising such a question. In response, Udom stated that his concern was about what he described as “non-jihadist Muslims,” a remark that triggered further criticism and ridicule from commenters.

Elmasoud Elmesoud wrote that Islam unites people of different tribes under one leadership, adding that piety—not ethnicity—is what distinguishes believers. Ibrahim Suleiman Kigbu echoed the view, stating that the Sultan of Sokoto is the leader of all Nigerian Muslims irrespective of tribal or regional background.

Other respondents, including Ose Ehi and Saheed Lambe, noted that Yoruba Muslims traditionally rely on the Sultan of Sokoto for official announcements on Ramadan and Islamic festivals, reinforcing his accepted leadership role. Nura A. Baba described the Sultan, Dr. Sa’ad Abubakar, as the recognised leader of Muslims across Nigeria.

Some commenters also drew comparisons with Christian leadership structures in Nigeria. Musa Haliru Ahmad questioned why leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has rarely come from Northern Christians if Christianity, like Islam, is a universal faith.

During the debate, Isa Abdullahi referenced an official statement from the Office of the Grand Chief Imam of Oyo Land, Sheikh (Barrister) Bilal Husayn Akinola Akeugberu, which instructed Muslims in Oyo Land to await the Sultan of Sokoto’s announcement on the commencement of Ramadan and affirmed adherence to his leadership in Islamic matters.

Udom, a non-Yoruba, has been so involved in destroying the North, the Muslim Ummah of Nigeria but failed. He has now turned to instigating Yoruba Muslims to reject the leadership of Northern Nigeria under the Sultan of Sokoto.

He posted: “Is Fulani the leader of all Yoruba Muslims of Nigeria?” and he got the biggest disgrace of his life. It was a Christian, Charles Ofomata, who replied him saying, “Yes! Sultan of Sokoto”.

S Jubril Sky asked him, “Why Can’t You Convince All The Yoruba Muslims To Convert To Christianity First Before Asking This Question❓”

To this by Sky George Udom nonchalantly said, “We don’t need more Christians, we only need non jihadist Muslims”. And he was replied with laughter, “George Udom, Hahahaa Don’t Worry Soon We will Build Our New Caliphate In Akwa Ibom And The Entire Biafra Republic. So You Didn’t See How Igbos Muslims Are Fighting For Their Right In Igboland 😂🤣”.

Then Elmasoud Elmesoud replied to him, “Islam is a religion that unite people with different tribes under one leader. In Islam there’s no difference between any member of a tribe, the difference is in the hand of God he’s the one who knows the most pious human among his creatures.”

Ibrahim Suleiman Kigbu said, “He is the leader of all Muslims in Nigeria irrespective of tribal sector or regional affiliation. Islam recognises all, Hausa Alago, Igbo’s, Yoruba, Chinese, Indian, Arab, Jukun, Itsekiri, Jaba, Birom, mumuye and any human beings on earth who embrace Islam. as brothers and sisters.”

Ose Ehi said, “Yes!

Yoruba Muslims have always depended on the Sultan of Sokoto to pronounce the commencements of Ramadan and Islamic feasts. So, he leads them.”

Saheed Lambe corroborated Ose Ehi saying, “Ose Ehi Yes we gladly accept that. No tribalism or ethnicity in Islam. We are all brothers to each other in faith.”

Also replying to MC Accuracy’s talk if Hausa-Fulani not seeing Yoruba Muslims as Muslims, Saheed Lambe said, “Mc Accuracy That’s hearsay. We love them, they love us too. We are all brothers.”

Nura A. Baba said, “Dr. Sa’ad Abubakar remains your leader as far as you’re a Nigerian Muslim.”

Abubakar Umar answered in one word, “Yes.”

Shamsudeen Ibrahim Nuhu asked George Udom in a mocking manner because he already touchlighted for trouble and got one: “What tribe are you? Who is the leader of Nigerian christian?”

Joshua Nanyak Danielson answered, “Yes.”

Lawal Gana Mohammed said, “We have one spiritual leader irrespective of tribes and regions.”

Musa Haliru Ahmad finally scattered the table for anti-Islam and anti-anti-North “evil agent” George Udom saying, “Since i knew the Christians religion, i have never seen a northern Christian as a CAN President. Are the northerners not worshipping the same Jesus Christ? Or is that post exclusively for Yorubas?”

In the meantime, Isa Abdullahi has called attention of Udom to a release by Grand Chief Imam of Oyo Kingdom, Sheikh (Barrister) Bilal Husayn Akinola Akeugberu, as an evidence enough shut his mouth permanently if he has shame: “Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem

“OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE OFFICE OF THE GRAND CHIEF IMAM OF OYOLAND

“Assalaamu alaykum warahmatullah wabarakatuhu,

“The general public is hereby notified to await the official announcement from His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, regarding the commencement of the Ramadan fasting.

“The Ummah in Oyoland will, bi’idhnillah, follow the leadership of the Sultan in all Islamic-related matters, in conformity with the sunnatic trajectory as enshrined in our textual authorities: the Glorious Qur’an and the Hadith of our noble and beloved Prophet Muhammad, sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.”

Meanwhile, The DEFENDER reports that Udom is allegedly involved in coordinated online political messaging in support of the APC, including posts critical of Northern leadership and Muslim authorities. These allegations could not be independently verified but there are screenshots of his Facebook activities which support the allegations.

It will be recalled that George Udom and another individual, Bello Isiaka, were recently sued in a Kaduna court by Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Gumi over claims labelling him a terrorist leader. The court reportedly asked the defendants to present evidence in support of their allegations.

The latest incident has renewed public debate over religion, ethnicity, and political messaging ahead of the 2027 general elections.
