Sultan of Sokoto addresses Northern Governors, Monarchs on security challenges

The meeting provided a unique opportunity for political and traditional leaders to discuss critical issues affecting unity, peace and development of the North and Nigeria, and finding solutions to address them. These include the growing insecurity, out of school children and poverty.
Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Saad Abubakar, CFR, mni, was eminently present at the joint meeting of Northern Governors and Traditional Rulers, held in the Government House, Kaduna, on Monday December 2, 2025.


Delivering his speech as Chairman Northern Traditional Rulers Council, the Sultan appreciated commitment of the Governors for making the meeting a reality since the one held on May 10, 2025.

The meeting provided a unique opportunity for political and traditional leaders to discuss critical issues affecting unity, peace and development of the north and Nigeria, and finding solutions to address them. These includes the growing insecurity, out of school children and poverty.
The Sultan assured Governors of hundred percent support and cooperation to successfully deliver mandates given to them by the people.

He thanked the Kebbi State Governor and Gwarzon Daular Usumaniya, Idris Muhammad, for successfully hosting the Northern Traditional Rulers Council meeting in Birnin Kebbi in May.
He proposed for follow up joint meetings at sub-regional level of North West, North East and North Central to review progress and strategies for greater achievements and impact in implementing action agreed on at the Northern meeting.
The monarch urged Governors to always take critique and criticisms in good faith.
As usual, he called on the people to always pray for the leaders at all levels to succeed in the task of governing them.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani welcomed participants with a call for greater unity and more commitment to promote peaceful coexistence and development progress of the Northern region and Nigeria despite the diversity.

He emphasized the use of peer review mechanism for mutual exchange of ideas and strategies among states and the need to mobilize and equip more state security manpower to handle the growing Insecurity in the north.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Northern Governors Forum, Inuwa Yahya, Dan Amanan Daular Usumaniya, Governor of Gombe State, welcomed members to the crucial meeting in which decisions would be taken on critical challenges undermining the development progress of the Northern region and Nigeria.
He condoled communities recently affected by banditry and insurgency in Zamfara, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, Kogi, Kano, Niger, Borno and others.
Also in attendance at the meeting were Governor of Nasarawa State Engr Abdullahi Sule, Governor of Kaduna State Ubah Sani, among others, and Emir of Zazzau Ambassador Nuhu Ahmed Bamali, Emir of Keffi, Dr. Chindo Yahusa III, Emir of Argungu Alhaji Muhammad Samaila Mera, Emir of Kaura Namoda Dr. (Major) Sanusi Mohammed Aisha, among others.
