Sultan, Gov Aliyu, Wammako, others pray in Sokoto as Nigeria celebrates Eid-ul-Fitr Sunday

Following Saturday March 29, 2025 declaration of crescent of Shawwal 1446 A.H. Sultan of Sokoto His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, Muslims all over Nigeria thronged various Eid prayer grounds in their respective states and communities on Sunday March 30 to celebrate the Eid-ul-Fitr.

The celebration marked the end of 29-day fasting of Ramadan, the ninth month of Islamic calendar year for 1446 A.H.
In Sokoto, Sultan of Sokoto Caliphate and Leader of Muslim Ummah of Nigeria, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, Governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, former Governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wammako, prayed at the Central Eid Ground accompanied by very senior members of Sultan Council Sokoto and top echelons of the federal and state governments, respectively.
Several thousands of Islamic faithful prayed at the 25-acre Eid ground after which the celebration moved to the Arcade of Sultan Palace where celebration proper was witnessed, followed by homage was paid on the Sultan by the governor ending with a lunch that was held in the main hall of the palace.
In his goodwill message at the palace, Governor Aliyu Sokoto, who praised the Sultan’s quality of father and leader of the Sokoto Caliphate and Muslim Ummah of Nigeria, said in Hausa that “We are here to greet Sarkin Musulumi on the occasion of celebration of the end of Ramadan fasting.”
The Sultan of Sokoto declared on Saturday March 29 that Sunday March 30 would be Eid-ul-Fitr day.
The Sultan said the decision followed report of the National Moon Sighting Committees across the country, confirming sighting of the new moon of Shawwal in several places across the country.
The Sultan, therefore, felicitated with the Nigerian Muslim Ummah, and wished them Allah’s guidance and blessings.
He also urged Muslim Ummah to continue to pray for peace, progress and development of the country as he also wished all Muslims well during and after the celebration.
He seized the declaration to enjoin Muslims to continue to pray for leaders at all levels.
