Sultan declares end of Ramadan fasting, says Friday is Eid-ul-Fitri

The Sultan of Sokoto and Leader of the Nigerian Muslim Ummah, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared Thursday April 20, 2023 equivalent to Ramadan 29, 1444 A.H. as end of Ramadan fasting for the year.

Sultan Abubakar, while making the declaration in his palace on Thursday, said the new moon was sighted in various parts of Nigeria and has been confirmed by the Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs in conjunction with the National Moon Sighting Committee as received.

The Sultan said he has accepted the report and accordingly declared Friday as Shawwal 1, 1444 A.H. which is equivalent to April 21, 2023 as day of Eid-ul-Fitr.

He urged prayers for newly elected leaders of the country and called on Muslim faithful to continue to do good towards fellow citizens in accordance with lessons learned in the just ended Holy Month of Ramadan.

He felicitated Nigerian Muslims and wished them God’s guidance and blessings, urging them to continue to pray for peace progress and development of the country.
