A police officer attached to the Delta State Police Command has been dismissed for killing a 26-year-old businessman, Onyeka Ibe, in Asaba, the state capital of Delta State.

The dismissed officer, Ubi Ebri, reportedly shot at and killed his victim on April 5, 2023, along Ugbolu-Illah Road of the state over the victim’s refusal to give a bribe of N100.

He, alongside his colleagues, fled the scene of the crime but were identified later by the command.

The deceased, who was a phone seller in the popular Ogbeogonogo Market in the state, was said to have rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba, but was confirmed dead on arrival.

Angry youths around the place where the crime was committed reportedly paraded the victim’s corpse on the streets to show their anger.

However, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, on Tuesday said that the trigger-happy police officer has been dismissed.

According to the Police spokesman, Inspector Ebri was charged to court Wednesday.
