Sultan Charges Newly Turbaned Title Holders on Truth, Service

The newly turbaned title holders in Sokoto have been urged to uphold the trust placed in them and demonstrate exemplary leadership in service to their people.

Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, who is also the President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), gave the charge on Saturday, June 6, 2026, during a turbaning ceremony at his palace in Sokoto, where he conferred traditional titles on 15 individuals.

This was contained in a statement signed by Prince Bashir Adefaka for the Media Team of the Sultan of Sokoto, dated Sunday June 6, 2026 and circulated to the media.

Addressing the new title holders, the Sultan emphasised the importance of honesty and accountability in leadership, urging them to speak the truth to leaders at all levels, including himself.

“Keep on telling us the truth all the time. Whenever we go astray, bring us back on track; it is part of your responsibility,” he said.

He added that leaders must also be prepared to explain their actions where necessary. “If you insist and we don’t retreat on whatever mission, we will tell our reason for not retreating,” he stated.

The Sultan reminded the appointees that their primary duty is to serve their subjects faithfully, describing them as his ambassadors who must dedicate themselves to the welfare of the people.

7 Alhaji Abdullahi Dan Azumi as Barayan Sarkin Musulmi

8 Bello Ibrahim Gusau as Sarkin Malammai

9 Abbas Abba Aminu as Sarkin Shariffai

10 Almustafa Mazuga as Mazugan Sarkin Musulmi

11 Ubangari as Zagin Sarkin Musulmi

12 Nura Umar as Dangaladiman Zagin Sarkin Musulmi

13 Alhaji Kabiru Maibulo as Sarkin Tamburra

14 Usman Abdullahi Mustafa as Muhtasibin Sokoto

The ceremony was attended by the representative of the Sokoto State Governor, Commissioner for Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Dadi Adare, as well as representatives of the Emirs of Gwandu and Argungu, senior councillors of the Sultanate Council, kingmakers and other dignitaries.
