“Some of us rely on Psalms and some rely on the Qur’an. If we have anybody that prepares to face criminals with spiritual preparation, it would not be a crime,” Omoyele said.

As institutions in Yoruba Land continue to prove that fighting against evils and criminalities transcends mere fetishism or occultism, Commander of the Osun State chapter of Western Nigeria Security Network, also known as the Amotekun, Mr. Adekunle Omoyele, says some of his officers and men, who are Christians and Muslims, are relying on the Psalms (Bible) and the Qur’an in their spiritual preparations to face influx of the security challenges in the state.

The Commander, who spoke in Osogbo the state capital on Tuesday, said the state’s Amotekun was in synergy with its counterpart in neighbouring states to curb the influx of terrorists from other parts of the country.

According to Adekunle Omoyele during a media chat at the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Osogbo, criminal cases at the mining sites in Ijesa Land are attributable to the influx of suspected terrorists, among whom were arrested recently.

He noted that plans have been perfected with Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo and Ogun states to tackle the criminals.

He disclosed that Governor Ademola Adeleke had made provision for Amotekun in the 2025 budget, even as he promised to empower the corps to perform better.

Omoyele lamented shortage of personnel to mobilise for the job of securing the Osun State people, but promised to use the available resources to flush criminals out of the state.

Speaking about calls for state police, Omoyele dismissed the fear that it would be abused by politicians, adding that the benefits of state police transcend the fear that people had expressed against it.

He posited the law that will guide its creation would take care of the fear being expressed by people, noting that the benefit deserves to be given attention rather than the fear.

On the allegation that Amotekun is using spiritual power to combat crime, Omoyele said the criminals are not relenting in using whatever they have to cause havoc to the people, hence the need to prepare for them.

“The only thing I know is that we have our men divided according to their training and capabilities to face criminals in all forms because the criminals also prepare with everything they have.

“Some of us rely on Psalms and some rely on the Qur’an. If we have anybody that prepares to face criminals with spiritual preparation, it would not be a crime,” Omoyele said.
