Senator Abaribe: Lauretta Onochie calls for stringent screening of political office seekers
“I can wager a bet that Abaribe neither asked for, nor have seen a copy of the security report that was submitted to the President on the killers we all call Herdsmen and Farmers. He did not also ask Google before showcasing ignorance on national Television. But there again, what you have is what you showcase. Ignoramuses show case ignorance. He owes some answers to the Nigerian state and he takes out his frustration at his inability to bend the system on our President Buhari. When they are not having their ways with our upright President, some of them get frustrated and get busy with harassing Ministers and DGs to part with resources meant for the Nigerian people.”
The Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Ms Lauretta Onochie, has advised electoral umpire in the country to consider stringent screening of those who seek political office.
In a post on her Facebook wall on Friday, titled, “Ignoramuses show case ignorance” directed to Senator Eyinaya Abaribe a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) member from Abia State, the presidential aide said the leader Nigeria needs is one whose ideology is first service before politics, adding that President Muhammadu Buhari is a shining example of such a leader.
Onochie, who in other posts gave update of about progress of work on Enugu-Port Harcourt road dual carriage work, took a swipe on Senator Abaribe for describing President Buhari as “incompetent”.
Senator Eyninaya Abaribe, a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) member from Abia State, turned Senate plenary to a rowdy session on Friday when he described President Muhammadu Buhari as incompetent.
Abaribe had moved a motion reacting to a comment made by Buhari in UK on Wednesday.
While receiving Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury, Buhari blamed the farmers, herders clashes in Nigeria on “irresponsible” handiwork of some politicians in the country but added that the situation had been made worse by militias trained by Muammar Gaddafi, former Libyan President.
But speaking on the floor of the Senate chamber, Abaribe wondered why the President was still the commander-in-chief when he could not protect the country from invasion.
Although he failed to explain why he and his colleagues including the sitting Deputy Senate President still fought hard for the President produced by their party, PDP, to continue to be commander-in-chief while Boko Haram hoisted flag in 27 Local Governments on Nigerian territory. An apparently angry Respondent observed.
Replying the Senator, Onochie said, “There has to be some sort of stringent screening for those who seek political office in our nation. President Buhari is a shining example of what leaders should be. For him, it’s service before politics. But people like the morbidly ignorant Senator Abaribe will never understand what service to the people means. For him, it’s about him and no one else. Yesterday, acting like a misinformed teenager, he expressed strong opinions about issues he obviously knows nothing about! He painted a picture of a circus, instead of a hallowed chamber for the Nigerian Senate.
“He owes some answers to the Nigerian state and he takes out his frustration at his inability to bend the system on our President Buhari. When they are not having their ways with our upright President, some of them get frustrated and get busy with harassing Ministers and DGs to part with resources meant for the Nigerian people.”
The presidential aide was speaking on how the lawmakers descended to harassing ministers and DGs of agencies and parastatals, just as Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC)’s Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola recently chided the National Assembly over what he described as their demand for bribes from MDAs to pass their budgets.
Particularly directing her statement to Abaribe, Onochie, described by many as the Amazon of Buhari’s Media Office, said, “He’s a disgrace to his constituents. Sen. Abaribe is a shame to the Nigerian system that threw up such a man into such an important position. God help Nigeria. God bless Nigeria,” she concluded.
