Saudi Arabia records first coronavirus death

Saudi Arabia reported on Tuesday its first death related to the coronavirus.

The Afghan national died on Monday night at a hospital in Madinah after his condition deteriorated quickly, health ministry spokesman Mohammed Abdelali said.

The ministry reported 205 new cases, bringing the total number of people infected with COVID-19 to 767.

Most of them are in a stable condition and 28 have recovered so far — nine of them in the past 24 hours.

Jeddah recorded the highest number of infections with 82 cases and Madinah the lowest with one case.

King Salman on Sunday issued an order imposing a curfew across the Kingdom to control the coronavirus outbreak. T

Ministry of Interior said those who violate the measure will face a fine of SR10,000 ($2,665), and repeat offenders could be sent to jail for up to 20 days.

Speaking at the same briefing, Ministry of Interior spokesman, Talal Al-Shalhoub, praised the “great commitment on the first day of the curfew,” adding that the ministry will address the rumors that affect the efforts to combat the coronavirus.
