Saudi Arabia, Iran hold direct talks amid escalating regional conflict

While the United States and Israel are not directly participating in the discussions, both countries are reportedly being briefed on developments as part of broader international efforts to pursue a potential ceasefire.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Iran have entered direct negotiations aimed at easing regional tensions following the outbreak of the 2026 Iran war.

According to reports, the high-level discussions are being held at a neutral venue and mark the first significant diplomatic engagement since the launch of Operation Epic Fury on February 28, 2026.

Officials familiar with the talks say the negotiations are focused primarily on establishing a humanitarian corridor and ensuring the protection of key energy infrastructure across the Persian Gulf.

The initiative is viewed as an effort by both governments to prevent the conflict from escalating into a wider regional war that could severely disrupt global oil markets.

While the United States and Israel are not directly participating in the discussions, both countries are reportedly being briefed on developments as part of broader international efforts to pursue a potential ceasefire.

The diplomatic effort comes as military strikes on Iranian targets continue, highlighting the fragile nature of the talks.

Analysts say a breakthrough could result in a limited pause in hostilities and help secure commercial shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical energy corridors.

Financial markets have already reacted to reports of the meeting, with oil prices easing slightly from recent highs amid cautious optimism that negotiations could reduce the risk of wider disruption.
