The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing is ready to provide consultations and practical assistance in the fight against the spread of monkeypox to the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the WHO European Region, the press service of the sanitary watchdog told journalists on Thursday.
“The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing has already received requests from the EAEU countries and the WHO European Region for consultations and practical help in counteracting the spread of the monkeypox virus, including on the use of Russian test systems. If necessary, the partners will receive appropriate assistance,” the statement said.
Earlier, the agency presented scientific research results on fighting the spread of the disease at an international conference organized by the WHO. Experts on epidemiology and virology reviewed the general epidemiology of monkeypox, including the current outbreak, its diagnostics as well as recommendations on laboratory testing for the presence of the virus.
“The Vector Center of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing presented to the international community the results of scientific developments of the modern diagnostic means of the monkeypox virus and other orthopoxviruses that are pathogenic to humans. The demonstrated systems help detect the disease and distinguish it from similar infections rapidly and with high precision. Russian research caused great interest,” the agency’s press service said.
The sanitary watchdog emphasized that nowadays, the solutions of Russian virologists and epidemiologists are in demand at the venues of specialized international organizations. The agency’s researchers and specialists continue to actively interact with the WHO and the EAEU countries on preventing and responding to new epidemiological threats, including monkeypox, the press service noted.
Earlier, the agency’s press service noted that Russia did not have any monkeypox infections. The sanitary watchdog is taking the necessary steps to prevent the import of the infection and curtail the possibility of its spread in Russia.
