Robbery suspect shot dead in Ogun

The Police in Ogun State an armed robbery suspected has been shot dead by operatives in the state.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement he issued yesterday in Abeokuta copy of which was sent to The DEFENDER.

He said the suspect was shot by men of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) Magbon, Abeokuta while trying to escape with a stolen Lexus RX 350 Jeep.

The suspect was said to be a member of an armed robbery gang that operated in Abeokuta and snatched the said vehicle at gun point at Oke-Ilewo area of the capital city.

Immediately after the robbery, a distress call was made to the Commander of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) DSP Uba Adam who alerted his men.

Luck ran against the robbery suspects when the FSARS team stationed along Sango-Ota area sighted the stolen vehicle and gave it a hot chase.

In their bid to escape, the suspects opened fire on the policemen and the officers fired back.

At the end of the encounter, one of the robbers was fatally injured and he was taken to the hospital in Ijaiye but died while receiving treatment.

An AK49 rifle loaded with 13 rounds of live ammunition was recovered while the snatched Lexus RX 350 Jeep with registration number Lagos LSD 456 Ex was also recovered.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police Ahmed Iliyasu has expressed satisfaction with the performance of his men and ordered a manhunt for the fleeing members of the gang.

Iliyasu assured residents of the state to always alert the police on time whenever any crime is being committed in their area to enable the police respond as quickly as possible.
