Rhodes-Vivour attends Qur’anic competition, gifts cash to Islamiyyah students for brilliant performance

By KEMI KASUMU

For their impressive knowledge displayed at a Qur’anic competition, Lagos State Governorship Candidate of the Labour Party (LP) during the 2023 election, Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has gifted cash awards to students of Arabic and Islamic studies from across all mosques in Lagos Island area of the state.

Rhodes-Vivour was a special guest at the Islamic event held at the Jama-a-tul Islamiyyah Central Mosque, Lagos Island, on Thursday March 27, 2025 equivalent to Ramadan 27, 1446 AH.

At the event, Gbadebo appreciated what he described as the display of knowledge by the “brilliant young minds” while commending the commitment they enthusiastically and passionately showed towards their faith-based development.

This was even as he noted that his cash gifts to them were nothing compared to the volume and value of intellectual property they have in their possession with regard to how they are able to hold tight to their knowledge of the Qur’an in terms of linguistics, recitation, meaning and culture.

His impression by which he was attracted to the “brilliant young minds” could not be unconnected to his recent statement where he said his circumstantial loss at the last governorship election would never weaken his untiring commitment to building his good people of Lagos State.

In a statement posted on his verified Facebook page on Friday, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour said, “I was greatly impressed and blessed by the impressive display of knowledge by these brilliant young minds at the Jama-a-tul Islamiyya of Nigeria Central Mosque in Lagos Island.

“The gifts I awarded the winners for their impeccable display of Islamic knowledge was nothing compared to the warmth, love and heartfelt prayers I received from this wonderful community.

“May the Almighty reward their dedication and steadfastness, and may the prayers offered during this Holy Ramadan period bring relief, succor and happiness to our people.”
