Rep gives reason 2017 budget’s passage failed last week
Reason has been given to clear the issues surrounding the National Assembly’s inability to pass the 2017 budget last week Thursday as promised.
A member of the House of Representatives, Honourable James Faleke, gave the reason saying the passage of the budget was not accelerated to enable the legislative arm do a thorough screening of the budget details submitted to prevent “budget padding”.
Faleke said this on Monday in Abuja while fielding questions from journalists after a closed door meeting with the Kogi State All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders at the party’s National Secretariat.
“Budget process takes some time, unlike what we had before where you talk about budget padding or no padding. What the National Assembly tried to do this time is to do the needful once and for all with the budget details being submitted. The budget is ready, only to be considered at the floor, as all committees have finished their work, probably this week,” he also said.
The deputy governorship candidate to late Prince Abubakar Audu in the controversial poll appealed to Nigerians to exercise more patience with President Muhammadu Buhari as he set the country on the path of growth after the economy was left in ruin by the previous government.
He said less than two years of the Buhari administration, Nigeria had moved forward as the government had reorganized its revenue base, secured successes in the fight against insecurity and corruption, blocked the loopholes and introduced the needed reforms in the area of economy which he said is now yielding fruits.
