President Tinubu meets Sanusi II in Villa
By OUR REPORTER, Abuja
Report reaching us at The DEFENDER says 14th Emir of Kano and Leader of Jama’atul Tijaniyyah in Nigeria, His Royal Highness Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi II, visited the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.
On arrival, he was said to have made straight into an audience, closed-door meeting, with the President.
Visit of the former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) was coming barely one week after the President suspended Godwin Emefiele as the CBN Governor. Details of the discussions of the two leaders were, however, not known as at the time of filing this report.
Sanusi served as CBN governor from June 2009 to June 2014 after which Emefiele took over the reigns of administration in the apex bank until he was relieved this June 2023 making him about the longest serving CBN governor in Nigeria having been there for nine uninterrupted years.
On Friday 9 June 2023, the President suspended Emefiele as the apex bank’s chief and directed that the bank’s Deputy Governor of Operations, Folashodun Shonubi, take over from him in acting capacity, while the suspended bank chief was reported arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) same day.
On Saturday, the DSS confirmed that Emefiele was in its custody and some investigate activities.
On Wednesday, the apex bank unified all segments of the forex market collapsing all previous windows into one.
