Power Generation: Okorocha signs MoU with Chinese firm
In less than seven months to wind up, it’s administration Imo State Government under Governor Rochas Okorocha, signed an memorandum of understanding (MOU) with a Chinese power generating company known as “Elion Global Resources “ to generate power and develop agro-based ventures in the state.
On behalf of the people and government of Imo state, the secretary to the government of Imo state Mr Mike Uchendu, signed the agreement, while the Chief executive officer, of the Chinese company, Elion Global Resources Mr XU Weihu signed for the company.
During the ceremony in Owerri, over the weekend, the president of the Chinese company Mr Wang Wenbio led his team to meet with the governor Okorocha and other government of functionaries.
In his words, governor Okorocha, said that what the state has been looking for is a major company like this Chinese company to come and develop the state’s industrial pack.
He added: we have the gas and gas is power and we need a credible a company like this to move our gas into power for the greater and mutual benefits of the state and county.
In this own address, the president of the Chinese company Wenbiao said, his company would partner with the state on power generation and development of the state’s industrial pack and agro-based industries.
Reacting to this development, some economic analysts in the state believed that this present packed signed by the state government and the Chinese company now that the life of the government was almost over, is just a way of ripping off the people of the state of huge sum of money.
According to them the fund that would be involved would be enormous, and would eat deep in to the state’s treasury and however called for the cancellation of this memorandum of understanding as they believe, Governor Okorocha has no other thing occupying his mind other than how to impose his son in-law Mr Uche Nwaosu as the next governor of the state.
