The Police headquarters, Abuja, has taken over the investigation of the death of Mr. Timothy Adegoke, a Master of Business Administration student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. Adegoke was allegedly killed at Hilton Hotels and Resorts, Ile Ife, Osun State.

Chairman of the hotel, Dr. Ramon Adedoyin and six suspects said to be workers in the hotel are being interrogated on the circumstances surrounding Adegoke’s death.

Highly placed police sources in Osogbo, according to The Nation, said that the state police command which had been handling the case received a directive from Abuja to transfer the matter there.

“We will transfer all the suspects arrested in connection with the crime to Abuja any moment from now,” one of the sources said.

Counsel to Adedoyin, Abiodun Williams, confirmed the development in a text message last night.

He said: “I just heard so. But we are not bothered.

“Let the case be taken anywhere. Chief Adedoyin is 101% innocent of all these accusations.

“He will come out unscathed. The officers in Abuja cannot do anything better than what Osun State Command has diligently done.”

Counsel to the Adegokes, Naheem Adekilekun, when contacted about the transfer of the case, said: “We are not yet clear about the transfer of the matter. Please call me back by 9 PM.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Yemisi Opalola, did not respond to our correspondent’s phone calls.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Ife Central Local Government Area, Hon Olayera Elugbaju, denied speculations that staff of the local government were arrested by the police for alleged involvement in burying Adegoke.

“No staff of the secretariat was arrested by the police,” he said.

He added:“I cannot confirm to you now if our staff buried the corpse of Adegoke until I see the file they record corpses that the local government buried in the past.”

Adegoke,a chartered accountant, had lodged in the hotel on November 5 ahead of his examination at OAU.

He had come in from his base in Abuja, flying first to Akure Airport in Ondo State from where he travelled by road to Ile-Ife.

However, when his wife could not establish contact with him after repeated phone calls, she raised the alarm.

His corpse was found a few days after where it was dumped on the outskirts of the ancient town.
